On 10/3/26 I launched my new book, This Boy Will Do Great Things at my favorite book store, Village Books in Bellingham, WA. The venue designed for about 35-40 expanded to fit the 80+ people who attended. Portable book shelves moved out, folding chairs and a table for treats filled the room. The beautiful autumn day brought onlookers in as well as registered guests. The place was packed, including about 15+ children.

I thanked my children’s critique group for their guidance and Village books, the publishing coordinator. I gave a big thanks to Chelsa Knutson, my project partner, illustrator, and designer. Her artistic talent, creativity, and design brought this story to life. So many people and children loved her illustrations.

The audience and children played a role in the presentation. Megan, read the story summary. My beta readers (twin boys, 11 years old at the time, now 13) Theo read a page in the book and Lucas told the audience what he liked about and learned from the book. The thirty-minute presentation ended with a prize drawing for the children (a sweet stuffed zebra) that went to a little girl in the front row. The question and answer session from the audience included two little girls. Felsan sat on my lap with her princess dress. Book signing followed. I was so pleased at how much the youngsters were engaged.

The story depicts Dima as a child growing up in his village surrounded by dangerous animals. He later follows his dream to become a wildlife guide. Dima made a video of himself guiding us on a safari in the Okavango Delta – wild animals and all. This video was a big hit.
